As Easter becomes more of a festivity, more party shops are stocking Easter decorations.  You can now buy a large range of Easter merchandise to decorate your home or party venue. As with any event, preparation is the key to a successful party and decorations can be prepared, made or purchased in advance. UK-Entertainers has created this article to make your choice as easy as possible. To accompany your decorations, UK-Entertainers have also produced complimentary articles ‘Easter Party Games’ and ‘Easter Party Foods’ to help make your party planning as easy as possible.

Easter Tree

An Easter Tree can be as simple as collecting some twigs from the garden, arranging them in a vase and then decorating with patterned wooden eggs.  Many gift shops and boutiques now sell 2-3cm, 5cm and larger eggs specifically for Easter Trees.  A small tree can be an attractive addition to a window sill or make an interesting centre piece for your table.  If you have a bigger space you can use larger twigs or branches to display 5cm decorative eggs.

Children can also be involved in decorating eggs for the Easter tree.  Blown eggs (see Handmade Easter Decorations section) provide a delicate addition to any tree, and will all be unique and personal to your family.  Easter trees can be given the finishing touches by adding small soft toys of chicks or rabbits sitting at the base of the vase.  (Discount pound shops often have a box of chicks).

Decorating your Easter Tree can become a family tradition much like decorating the Christmas tree in December.

Easter Banners

If you are holding a child’s Easter Party, banners can make a colourful addition to any room.  These could be homemade for the personal touch or purchased from a party store for a timesaving display. Homemade banners can involve all the family, and can be as easy as cutting out large egg shapes for the children to paint or colour and then threading or taping onto string.  For the more adventurous there are many, many clip art pictures of eggs, rabbits, chickens, flowers etc that can be printed out to cut and decorate.

Balloons and Inflatable Decorations

Balloons are generally recognised as a symbol of a party, so why should Easter be any different?  Most supermarkets stock balloons and the standard balloons are egg shaped. These can again be decorated with permanent pens (with adult supervision), or glitter, sequins attached with glue. You can buy specifically manufactured balloons for Easter with ‘Easter’ printed on them or helium foil balloons of chicks, rabbits or other Easter characters.

In some party shops you can buy large inflatable bunnies, chicks, large eggs and other Easter emblems that can be displayed in the corner of rooms.

Room Decorations

There are many choices when decorating a room for Easter. You can choose hanging decorations similar to mobiles or use larger cut out shapes and pictures to cover wall spaces.

Hanging decorations are available to purchase but can be easily made from string or packing ribbon and attaching pictures of rabbits, chicks, eggs etc at intervals down the string.  If you are feeling artistic these can be drawn or cut out from pictures printed from a clip art package.

Similarly a quick way to add a splash of Easter colour to a room is to use spring or Easter related pictures cut out and stuck on the walls. If you are holding a children’s party you could supply the children with an outline picture and allow them to colour in the picture and then display it. This will give the children a real sense of involvement in the party.

Piñatas

Piñatas are becoming a more familiar addition for parties.  Unless you have A LOT of spare time, and space to make a papier-mâché piñata and decorate it, then we would recommend that if you would like one for your Easter party then purchasing one may be the best option. There are a huge range of piñatas available including chicks and bunnies for an Easter party.

Handmade Easter Decorations - For the more Adventurous!

Blown Eggs – (this is an adult task) Using a (sterilised) needle carefully pierce the top and bottom of a fresh egg.  Work the needle round the hole carefully to enlarge it slightly.  Blow with some force through one hole until the white and eventually the yolk is blown out of the bottom hole, and saved in a bowl if you wish to cook with it.  This task can be made easier by piercing the yolk whilst inside the egg by poking the needle through one hole.  Once all the yolk and white has been blown thoroughly rinse the egg by running water through the top hole for several minutes.  Allow the eggs to dry completely before decorating.

Thread a loop of ribbon through the clean dry egg, making sure that the two ends are not pulled into the egg. Tie a knot with the two loose ends and glue to the bottom hole, leaving the loop protruding through the top hole to hang the egg.

Poster paint is a bold way of decorating eggs although it can tend to flake and crack over time. To solve this mix in a small amount of PVA glue to the paint before decorating, but be sure to wash the brushes thoroughly straight after use.

Blown eggs can also be made into spring animals, lambs, chicks and rabbits.  Use pipe cleaners to make the legs. Use one to form a circle / oval the shape and slightly smaller than the egg you are decorating. This will be the base to add legs to. Bend additional lengths of pipe cleaners to make the legs and sit the egg on the base.
Lamb –Make the base and legs as above with the egg lying on its side. Cotton wool makes excellent lambs wool, stuck over the egg, and felt tip pen to draw the face.

Rabbit –Make the base and legs as above with the egg standing up on one end.  Two legs are a little tricky to support the egg so the egg base will sit on the table surface and the pipe cleaner legs can be bent up either side of the egg body as if he is crouching.

Cardboard ears can be cut out and stuck on and felt pens to make the face etc.

Chick –From card cut two feet, then balance the egg on the feet using modelling clay or similar.  Use feathers to decorate your chick (from craft shops).

These egg animals are ideal as a centre piece decoration for your table or even an activity at your party, so that your guests have a memento to take home with them.

An Easter Party is an ideal way to celebrate with friends and family, and taking time to decorate your home or venue only adds to the occasion. UK-Entertainers hopes that you enjoy the preparation and decoration for your Easter Party.
